Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard Vice Admiral HCG Alexandrakis Georgios
The Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.), Vice Admiral Georgios ALEXANDRAKIS, was born in Athens in 1965 and raised in Sitia and Agios Nikolaos, Crete.
He has served his military service as a Reserve Infantry Officer (Military Caregiver) in Rethymno (Crete). He had previously graduated first the respective School of Reserve Officers, in 1990.
He has been awarded a Bachelor’s Degree by the Department of Political Science and International Studies (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences).
In 1992, he succeeded in the Hellenic Naval Academy (Coast Guard Officer’s Cadet School) from which he graduated in 1994, obtaining the rank of Ensign of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Prior to assuming his current duties, he has served for several years in the Port Authorities of Piraeus, Heraklion, Chania, Sitia and Naxos, as well as in the Merchant Marine Academy of Crete.
Vice Admiral (H.C.G.) Georgios ALEXANDRAKIS also served as Director of both State Security and Drugs and Contraband Enforcement Directorates of the Hellenic Coast Guard Headquarters. During that same period, he was appointed as an alternate member of the Greek Financial Intelligence Unit of the Hellenic Anti-Money Laundering Authority.
He has served as Commander of the 7th Regional Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard, based in Crete (Heraklion), and as Director of the Minister’s Executive Office, in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.
In June, 2020 he received his commission as Rear Admiral (H.C.G.) and assumed the duties of General Inspector of the Hellenic Coast Guard. In March, 2021 he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral and was appointed as the Second Deputy Commandant.
He has attended a series of postgraduate courses, trainings and seminars and holds all the medals, awards and insignia of his rank and position, as well as the Naval Medal of Second Class for his contribution to the fight against organized crime and, specifically, for the dismantling of a criminal network that had trafficked significant quantities of narcotics.
In 2019, following a nomination of the Coast Guard Headquarters, he was honored by the Coast Guard Club, on the successful coordination of a wide range of operations that ended up in locating and seizing a particularly large amount of drugs, in the framework of exercising his duties as the Commander of the 7th Regional Command (Crete).
On March, 10th, 2022 he assumed the duties of the Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard, by decision of the Hellenic Governmental Council of National Security.
He is fluent in English.
He is the father of four (one of whom serves as a Flying Officer in the Hellenic Air Force)
